Health Metrics and On-Site Learning

Determining the safest learning environment for students requires a thorough evaluation of data from the state and local health departments and guidance from the Virginia Department of Education. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) uses a number of indicators including CDC metrics to determine community spread of COVID-19 and the risk of transmission in schools. WJCC Schools uses data for Williamsburg, James City County, and the larger Peninsula along with input from the local WJCC Schools Health Advisory Group when planning for the delivery of instruction.

Key Mitigation Strategies Implemented at Schools

WJCC Schools has adopted the following mitigation measures. Our ability to implement them at every school, every day will impact the number of students we are able to bring on site for learning.

  • Consistent and correct use of masks
  • Vaccination of eligible students and staff

  • Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Contact tracing in collaboration with local health department
