Carla has the best interest of the child at heart at all times. She makes herself available to any teacher who requests her support/advice. Carla offers new, constructive ideas to support the children in the class and is there when sometimes challenging behaviors occur. She is very knowledgeable of the Special Ed process and is professional and compassionate when meeting with parents. Carla is the very definition of a “Support Employee”.

Christine greets every student with a smile. When they enter the office she immediately assists them with their needs including escorting them to the nurse when they are not feeling well, helping them complete errands assigned by their teacher, helping them check-in when they are late, and talking to them when they need an outlet. Christine also works with our students’ parents to ensure all of their questions are answered and that they have everything they need before leaving the building. She is a consummate professional that provides the extra customer service that makes our building a school of excellence.

Nikki is very knowledgeable about the children’s allergies and there’s a lot of them. She is so concerned about each and every child. Nikki is a wonderful caregiver. She really engages the children in conversation so she can better address the situation. Nikki has a pleasant attitude and demeanor to ALL students and staff. She is always ready to help and consistently is available to all when needed. Nikki has a great personality and has good rapport with parents.

Heather “Ashley” is always extremely positive and professional. She goes above and beyond on a daily basis. Ashley is reliable and dependable and it is evident that she puts 110% into all that she does. She always puts children first and goes out of her way to make sure students feel cared for. Ashley builds relationships with the children by eating lunch with them and by really getting to know them as people. She is a constant support for teachers, students, and staff at JBB and we are truly grateful to have her.

Laura is cooperative and willing to go above and beyond when she is tasked to cover a class. She has developed close ties with some students’ families to ensure the students are receiving what is needed for their success. Laura acts in lieu of reacting, which creates a calming effect with the children. Whenever we visit the classroom, we find her to always be engaged with the children with a reassuring tone and guidance.

Judy makes it her mission to greet each student coming in the front door each day…giving them a positive start to their day. She very quietly sees students who are hurting or in need and will help them work through things. Judy is a good listener and friend to all students and staff at Matthew Whaley. She exemplifies a true patriot, sets a good example for staff and students and helps to provide a calm, congenial atmosphere for our community.

Cheri is an integral member of the Matoaka office staff and school community and orchestrates and manages a multitude of daily tasks. She has strong communication, interpersonal, and communication skills with all staff members, parents, and children. Cheri is organized, dedicated, meticulous, patient, kind and has a contagious laugh that welcomes and warms the hearts of Matoaka families, students, and staff. She has the admirable ability to take on whatever the day throws at her and does so with a smile.

Judy will help students on a one-to-one basis and makes sure her team is well prepared for the day. She comes in and does more than what is expected of her and is always willing to lend a helping hand if needed. Judy works so well with her team. She truly is a Support Employee.

Norma’s knowledge, superior work ethic, and caring nature are top notch. She provides students with quality learning opportunities and happily assists students as they come in pursuit of the books they love. Norma encourages students to become efficient users of the library by assisting them in finding books, while not doing it for them, empowering them to be life-long learners. She is dedicated to her role and her expertise is second to none.

The ways in which Marissa helps the students of WJCC are innumerable. You need only to observe her interactions with students on a daily basis to see the difference she makes in their educational experience. When Marissa walks into the classroom her students’ eyes light up because they know they can count on her and that she believes in them. She does whatever is needed without complaint to reach her students and help them be successful.

Lisa goes beyond the scope of her job by doing anything she’s asked to do even offering to bake to encourage our students to remember to do their homework. She supports our school in activities and many times does our bulletin boards. Lisa goes above and beyond her duties as a collaborative teacher by always offering to do whatever is asked of her! She is well known by many teachers as a support to all of us at Berkeley!

Elizabeth is an amazing paraprofessional! She is always willing to help out in any way that is needed. She anticipates what will be beneficial to students and teachers, and she provides comprehensive class notes, targeted study guides and other assessment resources that help students prepare for content assessments. Elizabeth is self-directed and motivated to do her job well. She encourages all students to be critical and independent learners, while at the same time providing them with the support they need to be successful.

Karen is a smiling face and a positive influence that the students interact with in the building regularly. She is willing to lend a helping hand when it comes to others in the building. Karen helps the students at Toano by making sure their learning environment is clean and comfortable throughout the day. She is a joy to see each day and can make most anyone smile.

Mary Lou works above and beyond to ensure the finances at Jamestown High School are perfect and does it with a smile on her face. She interacts with students and families on a daily basis to accommodate their financial needs. Mary Lou also works with administration to identify the most resourceful way to accommodate the needs of our students and teachers. She does so much to support our entire staff…much of which goes unnoticed and sometimes unappreciated.

Not only does Kathleen help students to succeed, she helps them surpass their highest expectations. She is always there for support, not only for the students but the teachers as well. Kathleen really is an incredible teacher and person and is always there to help in a moment’s notice whether it is with a Special Ed issue, or just to offer some advice. She really is an incredible teacher and person. The nomination was an easy one to give to her!

Susan supports the occupational and physical therapists in many ways. She places all equipment and supply orders. Susan receives and manages our mileage and time sheets and is our “go to” person if we need anything quickly to perform our jobs. She is consistently friendly, helpful and pleasant to be around and often anticipates our needs and takes care of them without being asked. Susan does not like to be in the “spotlight” but is deserving of this honor.

Tom has been an asset to this division for 23 years. He is always focused on providing exceptional customer service. Anyone that meets him will receive a warm welcome. Anyone who asks for assistance will always be greeted with a “let me see how I can make that happen”. The students and staff of WJCC are better served because of Tom’s dedication and commitment to his job.

Cary goes above and beyond what is expected of him every day. Not only is he the Lead Tech, but he is involved with evaluating hardware purchases for teachers and students. He has great depth of technical knowledge that has proved invaluable in problem solving. Through Cary’s leadership we’re able to keep up with the needs of the district. It is a pleasure to work for and with Cary to help WJCC teachers and students.
