Program Description

  • Blended and online learning. Specific blended and online learning expectations are outlined below in the Summer Program Description.
  • Summer Program graduation will be held August 4, 2020 in the Jamestown High School Auditorium for students satisfying graduation requirements.
  • Courses with low enrollment may not be offered (a minimum of eight students required).

Summer Program Description

  • Program Goal: to provide rising 9 – 12 grade students the opportunity to earn original credit through online learning.
  • Seniors may take additional original credit courses to meet graduation requirements.
  • A computer lab will be available onsite during the Summer Program between 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. (Monday – Thursday) for students who need a more structured learning environment to complete online coursework.

First-time Credit

Students taking a class for the first time can earn original credit for the course. The tuition for an original credit course is $300 and tuition assistance is available for qualifying students (see your school counselor for the tuition assistance forms).

  • Parents who wish to enroll their child in a first-time credit course, must complete the online registration with their child’s school counselor.
  • Fees and forms are due at the time of registration (May 7 – June 25, 2020).
  • Courses with low enrollment may not be offered (a minimum of eight students required).
  • If the course is not offered, a full refund will be given within 10 business days.
  • Last day for a student to withdraw from a Summer Program course is July 9, 2020. No refunds will be given after this date.

*For Health & Physical Education, there will be 2 mandatory attendance classes; students must choose one date from section 1 and one date from section 2):

1. June 30 or July 1 – 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. (Pre Fitness Testing and Activity Tracker Sign out)
2. August 3 or August 4 - 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. (Post Fitness Testing, CPR, & Activity Tracker Collection)

Classes are completely on-line (no face-to-face required) and computer labs are available on-site for student access.

Dates/Time/Location

  • June 30 – August 4, 2020
  • Virtual class at home or 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Monday – Thursday at Warhill High School for students who need a more structured learning environment to complete online coursework.

Registration

  • Students may register for one course for original credit and no more than two courses (i.e., one core class and one non-core class). Seniors may take additional original credit courses to meet graduation requirements.
  • Students currently enrolled in WJCC Public Schools (rising 9 – 12 grade) may register for the Summer Program Acceleration at their school from May 7 – June 25, 2020.
  • LATE REGISTRATION WILL BE JUNE 29 – JUNE 30, 2020 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. IN THE SUMMER PROGRAM OFFICE AT JAMESTOWN HIGH SCHOOL.
  • Non-WJCC students may register on a space-available basis at a cost of $550 and must have the approval of their home school prior to registration.
  • No refund of tuition will be issued if a student is dismissed for disciplinary reasons or for excessive “virtual absences” (lack of daily login and participation).

Expungement

High school courses will not be expunged.

Withdrawing from a Course

Students who request to withdraw from a summer school high-school credit bearing course after the first week of summer school will receive a Withdraw Pass (WP) or a Withdraw Fail (WF), depending on their grade in the class at the time of withdrawal. Any withdrawals after the first week must be approved by the Summer School Coordinator. Withdrawals will be considered in extenuating circumstances and on a case-by-case basis.

Attendance

This course is offered strictly online; however, if students need access to a computer lab to complete assignments, there is one available at Jamestown High School.

Conduct

Any student whose behavior is disruptive and interferes with classroom instruction will be dismissed by the summer program principal. The WJCC Code of Student Conduct (available on the WJCC website) outlines the expectations for student behavior. Students will be subject to suspension or dismissal from classes if they violate policies with regard to student conduct.

Dress Code

Adherence to the School Board Code of Dress shall also be maintained: “All students are expected to wear dress appropriate to the occasion; extreme or ostentatious apparel or appearance is to be avoided. Any article of clothing or accessory which advertises alcohol or an illegal substance, depicts lewd graphics, displays offensive or obscene language, or is gang-related is forbidden.” 

Examinations       

There are no exam exemptions during the Summer High School Program.

Food Service

Snack foods are available for purchase during the high school program.

Parking

Students that would like to park on campus during the Summer High School Program must have a parking pass.  A parking pass can be picked up during Open House.  Rules will be issued with the parking permit.

Transportation

Transportation is provided for K-8 (general education) students, ESL students and pre-K–12 special education students.  General Education High School students will use personal or public transportation.
