Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hours my child will attend preschool?WJCC Schools2023-05-01T11:52:04-04:00

Bright Beginnings is held at five WJCC elementary schools with varying schedules. Preschoolers are assigned to a school site based on their bus transportation and the student’s individual needs. Click here for more information about our Bright Beginnings sites.

What school supplies are needed?WJCC Schools2023-03-20T10:52:54-04:00

We do not have a required list of school supplies like Elementary School.  Generally preschool children will need a back pack (big enough to hold a letter size file folder), a change of clothing, diapers or pull-ups (if appropriate) and diaper wipes. Your child’s teacher will be able to tell you more information at the classroom visit. Diapers and other personal supplies are kept in an individual cubby marked with each child’s name. Preschool provides crayons, markers and all of the learning supplies for all children. Teachers may suggest additional items during the school year specific to their classroom needs.

How many students will be in my child’s class and what age will they be?WJCC Schools2023-03-20T10:53:20-04:00

Most classrooms range from eight to fifteen children with at least two adults in the classroom at all times. The number of children in the class is determined by the age of the children in the group and the developmental needs of individual children in the class.

Does Bright Beginnings have bus transportation?WJCC Schools2023-03-20T10:54:33-04:00

All children are provided with school bus transportation to and from school. Children can be picked up and dropped off at home or from a childcare provider (as long as your child care is within the school division boundaries).

Click here for more information about bus transportation for Bright Beginnings students.

Will my child eat lunch at school?WJCC Schools2023-03-20T10:57:22-04:00

Both breakfast and lunch are offered to all children at school every day. Students can bring meals from home or purchase them from the cafeteria. On early release days, children who purchase school lunches will be provided with a bagged lunch to take with them at dismissal.

Please fill out the Free or Reduced Lunch Application if your child is eligible for these services.

Is there before and after school care?WJCC Schools2023-03-20T10:58:40-04:00

WJCC Schools does not provide before/after school care for Preschool age students.  If your child attends a daycare in the community and/or you have questions in regards to before and after school bus transportation, please contact the Bright Beginnings Office at 757-564-8721 ext. 2.

Is there an attendance policy for Preschool?WJCC Schools2023-03-20T10:59:46-04:00

It is important that our children learn early in life the importance of attending school every day.  Regular and consistent attendance is an expectation of all Bright Beginnings students.  For more information regarding attendance please refer to the Bright Beginnings Parent Handbook.
