Welcome to Bright Beginnings!

We are excited to welcome your child to the Williamsburg James City County Schools Early Childhood Program, Bright Beginnings. Our team at Bright Beginnings is dedicated to partnering with you and your child to ensure the best possible early childhood experience.

If this is your first time sending a child to school, we understand that you may have many questions. That’s why we have provided a handbook that addresses common concerns and general inquiries.

To keep you informed, your child’s teacher will send home newsletters, notes, monthly family activity calendars, and other important reminders. Please remember to check your child’s backpack daily to stay up-to-date.

General

Health-Related Forms

To ensure the health and safety of all children, all Bright Beginnings classrooms are peanut and tree-nut-free.

If you send your child’s lunch to school, please do not send peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter crackers, cookies or cakes with peanuts or other nuts, or candy that may have peanuts or nuts in it.

If you want to bring food to share with your child’s class, please talk with one of our nurses or your child’s teacher first.

Should you have any questions, please contact one of our Bright Beginnings nurses:

  • For students attending Norge or Laurel Lane, please contact Karen Byrd, R.N. at (757) 564-8721, Option 3
  • For students attending J. Blaine Blayton, Clara Byrd Baker or D.J. Montague, please contact Elise White, R.N. at (757) 565-9323

Family Engagement

We share a very important common interest – your child!  It is important to establish and maintain positive relationships through communication, cooperation, and collaboration. Children are the ones who benefit most from healthy, reciprocal relationships between teachers and families.  Families may request an interpreter for meetings or school events.

Partnerships

Our program has established numerous partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to provide children and families with additional resources, support, and opportunities for growth and development.

Community Resources

Families have access to many community resources, including libraries, recreation centers, counseling services, and support groups that offer educational programs, social activities, and more within the area.
