James River Elementary School kicked off Walk to School Month for Williamsburg-James City County Schools with a walk-at-school event on Wednesday, October 8th, International Walk to School Day. Using pedometers to count their steps, students “walked a mile” with Ms. Lassiter, the Physical Education Teacher.

On Thursday, October 30th, Matthew Whaley will have their Walk to School Day. Families who live too far to walk daily, will meet at the Williamsburg Public Library fountain between 8:45 – 9:00 a.m. where they will be welcomed by library staff and escorted by a school resource officer.

Take some time this week to promote health, safety and the environment by walking with your child to school – or just simply taking a walk together. Walking to school is a great way to be a part of a global event, promote health, to identify safer routes for walking and to improve air quality.

Celebrate Walk to School Month and help improve your child’s health and safety – as well as your own. Find out what walk-to-school activity is happening at your child’s school.
