I have been a WJCC Bright Beginnings Teacher for 6 years, starting at JRE and at CBB for the last 5 years. After graduating from the University of Vermont, I taught preschool for 12 years prior to moving to Williamsburg. Working with my preschoolers and their families to build a good foundation for their future education is my passion.

Becky Ketter earned her Bachelor of Science from James Madison University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Christopher Newport University. She has been teaching since 2005 and in Williamsburg James City County since 2006 at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary. Her daily motivation comes from her love of her students, their energy, and enthusiasm.

My career began in the Hampton City School District and has continued in the WJCC Division for the past 7 years. When I am away from my classroom I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Wanda is a K-5 Special Education Teacher at Rawls Byrd Elementary. She serves as a Spanish interpreter, team leader, and is a mentor for new teachers. Wanda is a strong advocate for her students. Her priority is to ensure that all of her students receive a well-rounded education. As a grant recipient, her students were able to participate in programs such as adapted swimming and horseback riding therapy.

My family moved to Williamsburg in 1988 and I graduated from Bruton High School. After graduation I attended Radford University where I earned my B.S. in Elementary Education. I taught first grade for one year at Surry Elementary School. Since 2000, I have been teaching fourth grade at James River Elementary School.

I have been teaching for twenty-eight years, half of that time as a Special Educator and the latest half as an elementary school teacher with second and third graders. I love teaching and through the years I have been fortunate to work with amazing colleagues, students, and parents. I am also blessed to have an incredible husband and three wonderful children.

I have been a speech-language pathologist for 30 years, and have held a national certificate of clinical competence for 28 years. I am very passionate about teaching my students to become effective communicators and mentoring student clinicians and new speech therapists in the WJCC schools. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 26 years. I am an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Lakers fan.

As a 5th grade teacher at Norge, I strive to prepare my students to be productive middle-schoolers. In addition to teaching the core subjects, much of my energy is focused on inspiring these boys and girls to become responsible, organized, and compassionate citizens. Humor and personal stories are my favorite way to ensure that they will remember and practice those life-long skills.

Renaye Roberts has been an educator for 16 years. She received her degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and completed her course work for teaching at Christopher Newport University. Renaye started her teaching career at James River Elementary and has taught fourth grade at Stonehouse Elementary since the school opened. She has served as after-school facilitator, team leader, and science curriculum co-leader. Renaye resides in Williamsburg.

I began my career with WJCC schools twenty-one years ago and served the majority of those years as a kindergarten teacher at DJ Montague. After leaving DJM, I became the computer resource teacher at Clara Byrd Baker. Since 2005, I have been the Instructional Technology Teacher at Toano Middle School. Also, I was the first teacher in the WJCC School Division to earn National Board Certification!

Melissa von Poks is currently a Mathematics Educator at Lafayette High School. At the completion of the 2014-2015 school year she will have 13 years of teaching. Her previous education roles include high school mathematics educator, mathematics coach, and Director of Education. Outside of the classroom she remains busy with her husband Jerry and three daughters, Brittany 23, Katherine 12, and Abigail 11.

Mrs. Schafer-Southard began teaching social studies at Lafayette in 1999. She had the honor of being a member of the original faculty opening Warhill. Candace has served as curriculum leader, mentor teacher, clinical faculty advisor, and varsity cheerleading coach. Outside of the classroom Candace participated in living history education programs at area museums.
