The STEM Club had the opportunity to meet with expert staff members from the Newport News Shipbuilders. The presenters spent time both to discuss various careers available in the STEM field, and allow the club members the chance to experience the most cutting edge engineering technology using augmented reality. All members were shown how 3D models can be made using laser scanning as well as the CAD software they have already been exposed to. Lastly, they were given a turn using the latest version of the Microsoft augmented reality “virtual desktop” helmet called the “Hololens” https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/hololens to manipulate the objects in the room they were standing in.
