Principal’s Newsletter Week 21, April 28th 2019

WEEK OF APRIL 29th, 2019

What’s Happening?

Good Afternoon Berkeley Parents,

As the interim marking period ends this week, for many of our students this is the last interim marking period in middle school. There is slightly under 35 days of school left and one last opportunity for students to get their grades up for high school. For all our other students, it is just another point of progress in their middle school academic calendar and an opportunity to work hard to set themselves up for next year.   SOL Testing is right around the corner is approaching in 2 weeks. We are asking any students who need help to stay after this week and for the next few weeks leading up to SOL Testing.  This week starts with an B Day on Monday, April 29th, 2019.

25th Annual BMS Block Party

Celebrate the school year with games, prizes, and outdoor fun, Friday, May 3, 3:15-6:00pm. Lunchtime ticket sales take place May 1-3. Wristbands $10 (unlimited inflatables, rock wall, karaoke). Tickets 2 for $1 (carnival games, concessions). “ALL SALES FINAL” and “A signed permission slip, pre-paid tickets and/or wristbands are required to stay after school.”  For more information, view the Block Party Event Flyer.  Any student with behavioral issues and who receives a In School or Out of School Consequence this week will not be able to attend this event.

We would all like to congratulate the Hampton Family who won the #100YearsofNFL contest and were featured guests on the NFL Draft. Jayden Hampton, one of our 6th graders, entered the contest and ended up being selected as a finalist. He was invited to the draft along with his family and it was announced they won the contest and 100 seasons of NFL tickets for their favorite team, THE NY GIANTS! You couldn’t ask for a more deserving family!

After School Help

Students who need additional help may stay after school with teachers to get more help. Buses are provided and leave at 5:00 PM. Tuesdays are for Math and Science, Wednesdays are for Related Arts, and Thursdays are for Social Studies and English. All students are encouraged to stay to get that more individualized instruction. We will be reaching out to you and your child if they need additional support. After school is a great time to get a concept that you didn’t get the first time around. Snacks and water will be provided to students who stay after school.

SOL Remediation

Now that MAPS testing is finished, we will be shuffling students in their daily English and Math classes to address specific strands which are weak to prepare them for the SOL test coming up in Reading and Math. Although instruction will still continue, there will be more targeted groups that are broken down in classes to address these weaknesses.

Sports- Baseball and Softball
