The Application Process

1. Explore Current Openings

Visit our careers page to browse available positions. New roles are posted frequently, so be sure to check back often!

2. Prepare Your Materials

Gather any supplemental documents you would like to include in your application. All applicants must provide three professional references, with at least one supervisor.

3. Submit Your Application

When you find a position that interests you, create an account and apply online. You may upload a resume and any additional documentation you would like considered.

4. Application Review & Interview Scheduling

Human Resources reviews submitted applications and shares qualified candidates with hiring managers. If selected for an interview, the hiring manager will contact you either through the application system’s scheduling tool or by phone.

5. Selection & Job Offer

If you are the final candidate after interviews, the hiring manager will submit a recommendation for hire. Once approved, Human Resources will contact you with an offer. If you are not selected, you will receive an email notification through the application system.

6. Post-Offer Requirements

  • Before your first day, all new hires must complete:
  • A criminal background check
  • A child protective services registry check
  • A tuberculosis screening

Hired candidates will receive electronic instructions and forms to complete prior to your scheduled appointment with Human Resources.

Student Teaching and Practicums with WJCC

If you are a student seeking a student teaching placement or practicum, please contact your college or university. College and university field placement coordinators should submit requests via the Request for Field Experience Placement form. A fully executed memorandum of understanding must be on file with our office before scheduling field placements.

Retired Teachers

Ready to return to the classroom and make an impact again? Retired educators who previously served in a Virginia Retirement System-covered position may be eligible to return as full-time teachers while continuing to receive their full retirement benefit.

To be considered, you must have been separated from service for at least six consecutive months and hold an active Virginia teaching license in one of the following areas:

  • Elementary education (Pre-K through 6)
  • Special education
  • Middle education (grades 6–8)
  • Career and technical education
  • Mathematics (grades 6–12, including Algebra I)
  • Science (secondary)
  • English (secondary)
  • History and Social Science (secondary)
  • World Language (PreK–12)
  • Health and Physical Education
