Description

This course is Dually Enrolled with Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) and will take place at the VPCC Historic Triangle campus.

This course is the first in a sequence of courses that prepares students as first responders to accidents and medical emergencies. In this course, students explore and apply the fundamentals of emergency medical services, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology while demonstrating skills in assessing and managing patient care, including assessing the scene and understanding shock, resuscitation, and trauma. Students will also learn body substance isolation techniques, establishing and maintaining an airway, bandaging wounds, use of automated external defibrillators, and much more. Upon successful completion of this course and EMT II, students will have earned CPR certification and will have the opportunity to take the certification exam for becoming an Emergency Medicine Technician- Basic.
