Description

Honors English 11 is an advanced course in American literature that draws upon material from the colonial period to the present day. An in-depth study on selected major American writers and works of others who have profoundly influenced the development of our national literature are also analyzed. Research for themes that reflect uniquely American ideals and values are discussed along with understanding the meaning and concept of the “American Dream.”  Exploration and the expressing of complex questions and the importance of individual moral choice and responsibility to the larger human community are also examined. Through the study of literature, students will achieve a better understanding of themselves and our national character. Extensive reading is required. Students in this course will prepare to take the Reading SOL assessment at the end of the course.
