Medical Assistant I – Grade 12
Description
This course is Dually Enrolled with Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) and will take place at the VPCC Historic Triangle campus.
This course is the first in a sequence of courses that prepares students to support the work of physicians and other health professionals as a Medical Assistant. Students will learn to assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, basic emergency care, and simple laboratory tests. Additionally, the course covers basic anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, medical mathematics, and legal responsibilities. Upon successful completion of this course and Medical Assistant II, students will have earned CPR certification and will have the opportunity to take the certification exam for becoming a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) in Virginia.
