SOL Parent Letter

Dear Families,

As part of the Virginia State Assessment Program, 3rd-5th grade students in Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools will take the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests in May. We want to make you aware of the testing dates early in the second semester so that you can plan for your child to be at school for each test.

The SOL tests will take place during a four-week window, from May 8 – June 2, 2017. Make-up testing will take place during the testing window.  Students will take all SOL tests online unless otherwise noted in an Individual Educational Program, 504 Plan, or English Language Learner Plan. Below is the specific schedule for SOL testing at D.J. Montague Elementary School:

If you know in advance that your child will not attend school for one or more of the SOL test(s), please notify me in writing as soon as possible so that I can arrange for your child to make up the test(s) in a timely manner.

This year, students who receive a score between 375-399 on any SOL test will be given the opportunity to retake their test.  You will be notified after your student completes their initial SOL test, if this applies to your child.  These retakes will only be given with your prior permission.

Thank you for your support in preparing your child for the May SOL tests by encouraging them to get plenty of rest and eat a healthy breakfast.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me at 258-3022 with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Scott M. Holland

Assistant Principal

Grasses for the Masses

4th and 5th grade recently had a PowerPoint presentation on how to help the Chesapeake Bay Watershed that we live in. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has started a program called Grasses for the Masses in which groups or schools can grow their own underwater grasses. Our classes planted underwater celery grass seeds and will be watching these seeds grow in our aquariums until May when we will plant them in the James River! What a wonderful way to give back to our environment and make a positive impact. Way to go 4th and 5th Graders!

Thank you for the wonderful photographs, Jen German!
