Services are provided for students who are found eligible for Special Education services under one or more of the 14 Special Education categories. Services range from consultation or support for students in the general education classroom (inclusion) to pull-out or self-contained services for specific remediation. Each student’s individual needs are discussed in his/her Individualized Education Plan (IEP), which guides the services and accommodations or modifications provided. The IEP is updated at least annually. The program’s goal is to facilitate the success of every student with a disability through appropriate support, placement, and remediation.
Students who qualify for special education services under any of the fourteen categories may also be found eligible for related services to include but not limited to occupational therapy, physical therapy, counseling, or speech and language therapy (also a category unto itself). School therapists, guidance counselors, social workers, and psychologists provide these services as outlined in the student’s IEP.
