The James River Association visited DJ for a special project. Fifth grade students learned that storm drains often lead directly to our rivers. The main pollutants in storm drains are fertilizers, pesticides, sediment, and solid waste (such as plastics). Storm drains should be only rain water as to eliminate harming the ecosystem of the James River. Students used stencils to paint an animal who is a part of the James River ecosystem as well as including the slogan “Your river starts here. Only rain down the drain.”
