Foreign Language Department News

The 8th grade World Language students will be presenting their international food projects at our annual banquet after school on Wednesday, April 2nd.

Parents and families of world language students are welcome to attend the banquet which will be held in the school cafeteria after school from 3:15pm until 4:50pm.

Students from the language classes of French, Spanish, German, and Latin will be able to sample and enjoy authentic international dishes from around the world.

Each language student is responsible to research, create, and share information about an authentic dish representing one of his/her language cultures.

Students will prepare this dish on their own and bring it to the banquet to share.  Students can be picked up at that time or can ride the activity bus home afterwards.

This food project wraps up our 3rd quarter and is part of the language curriculum.  Parents are also welcome to volunteer that afternoon at the banquet.

Please contact your child’s World Language teacher for more information, to attend or volunteer, and for specific details about the project.

7th & 8th Grade Hawk Band receives overall Superior rating at District VIII Band assessment

The Hornsby Middle School 7th & 8th Grade Hawk Band received an overall Superior (I) rating at our recent District VIII Band assessment! They received 2 superior (I) ratings and 1 excellent (II) rating on stage. They received an excellent (II) rating in sight reading. The overall average result was a superior (I) rating.

Hornsby Middle School was one of only 2 middle school bands that performed level III graded music whereas level VI is the hardest performing grade.

The Hornsby Middle School Band had one of the largest number of kids performing on stage, if not the largest. And, whereas many middle schools performed with 8th graders only on their harder music, the Hornsby band performed with all of their 7th and 8th   grade band members who are in the band program.
