Latin “Certamen” (Quiz Bowl) Winners

Hornsby hosted a Latin “Certamen”     (Quiz Bowl). Teams from Jamestown and Lafayette High Schools, and Toano, Berkeley, and Hornsby Middle schools, competed. The Hornsby Latin 1B team made up of Giovani Ceriani, Andrew Criddle, Kant Grantz, and Jordan McLeod, dominated their rivals and were undefeated in all 3 rounds of competition to take first place.  Due to no-shows on the part of other schools, the Hornsby level  1 team and the Hornsby level 1A team had to compete against each other. The 8th grade level 1 team of Will Lackey, Edison Liu, and Kate Long, were victorious, but the 1A team of Laina Atkins and Beckham Gemerek made an impressive showing, earning over 300 points and making the 8th graders work very hard for their victory. Congratulations to all!

Long Walk to Water Fundraiser 3/13-3/24: Click for more information

After reading A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, 6th grade gifted students in Ms. Brooks’s English class were inspired to support the efforts of Salva Dut, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, in his organization’s efforts to bring clean water to remote villages in South Sudan.  Our goal is to raise $1000.00 for the Iron Giraffe Challenge which would put our school into a drawing for a chance to receive a visit from Salva Dut, the founder of the organization.

Please help us raise money for building wells in South Sudan.  You can donate at school in the main office or during lunch.  You can also donate online through our fundraising site:  https://water-for-south-sudan-inc.networkforgood.com/projects/25540-hornsby-middle-school-fundraiser
