WJCC Schools and Offices will operate on the summer schedule beginning Monday, June 17, 2019, and continue through August 9, 2019. The official summer schedule for all WJCC buildings is: Monday – Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All offices and buildings are closed on Fridays during this period. Should you need to meet with a specific person please call ahead to ensure that that person is on-site. Many school personnel must attend meetings at other locations during the summer.
Congratulations to the JBMS music department! On June 7th the Band, Orchestra and Chorus competed at Kings Dominion! They brought back four trophies including Second Place Middle School Band, Second Place Middle School Chorus, First Place Middle School Orchestra, and Grand Champion Orchestra! Way to go Spiders!
JBMS students had the opportunity to learn about drone technology and view a demonstration by the York County Fire and Life Safety Department’s Rover Team as part of an introduction to the newly created Genesis Drone Academy. The Genesis Drone Academy program is designed by William Capers, In School Suspension Aide at James Blair Middle School; Archie Jefferson, Student Advancement Coach at Lafayette High School; and Eric Stone, a retired Williamsburg Firefighter.
The program includes an academic curriculum that facilitates the early learning process of sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students to help them understand drone technology as a tool and future career option. WJCC Schools’ Career Technology Education and Science teachers will incorporate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in their curriculum to expand student understanding of how drones relate to science, physics, robotics and, in particular, aeronautics.
The Genesis Drone Academy also includes an after-school program with the sole objective of preparing students to take and pass the FAA Part 107 Aeronautical Knowledge Test, which a student can take their junior year of high school.
