All juniors who ordered a class ring should report to the cafeteria today during ELT  for a brief ceremony.

If you have a parent or guardian that serves or has served in the military, come to the Library during AEP today for a meet & greet. Cookies and Hot Chocolate will be served. See you there!

There is a National Art Honor Society meeting today, make sure you bring your dues if you haven’t already.

There will NOT be a Model UN meeting today.  Please turn in any magazine fund raiser forms or money to Mrs. De Groft by this Friday.  Anime Club will meet tomorrow.

JHS Women’s Choir performs at The Nutcracker

Members of the JHS Women’s Choir performed this weekend at Virginia Regional Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker. They received many accolades from audience members, many of whom were surprised to hear that they were only high school aged students. Wonderful job, Ladies!

Caleb Visser selected as delegate to United States Senate Youth Program

Caleb Visser has been selected as one of only two students to represent the state of Virginia as a delegate to the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) to be held in Washington, D.C. March 7 – 14, 2015. The USSYP is a national initiative to provide a yearly opportunity for talented young people with demonstrated leadership abilities to deepen their understanding of America’s political processes and strengthen their resolve to pursue careers in public service. Caleb, along with the other 103 delegates, will be immersed in Washington activities throughout the week  Delegates will hear major policy addresses by Senators, cabinet members, officials of the Departments of State and Defense and director of federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Each session with elected officials includes an in-depth question and answer period.Caleb will also receive a $5,000 college scholarship.

The USSYP was founded in 1962 through Senate Resolution and each year two of the highest-achieving students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education system overseas are selected through an extremely competitive merit-based selection process held at the state departments of education nationwide. For more information and the program brochure please visit www.ussenateyouth.org.
