Back to School Information from the PTSA

Hello JHS Families!                                                                                       August 2016

We hope you all have been enjoying the summer! It may be hard to believe, but in a few short weeks, your student(s) will join us at Jamestown. Workers are busy finalizing renovations of our school’s first floor, fall sports teams have begun practices, and our 0-Crew will soon welcome our freshmen-the class of 2020-and other students new to J HS.

As the school year approaches, you may wish to add these dates to your calendar:

Freshman Orientation (9th graders only): Tuesday, Aug. 30, 9 am – 2 pm

Open House (all families): Tuesday, Aug. 30, 4 pm – 6 pm

First Day of School: Tuesday, Sept. 6

This summer brought great news for Jamestown. Our school, along with Lafayette High School, will share a $50,000 innovation grant from the state for plans to redesign the high school experience for 21st-century learners. Jamestown is now in the midst of sending out important materials about the new school year, including information about joining the JHS PTSA. We encourage you to come to our table at Open House to become a member and learn more about our activities. Your PTSA benefits JHS students in many ways. Among other things, we offer well-attended SAT/ACT practice tests, oversee the Reflections arts contest and host our popular After-Prom celebration, open to all juniors and seniors whether or not they attend Prom. For our hard-working teachers, the PTSA provides periodic luncheons as well as mini-grants to help supplement classroom equipment, supplies and projects.

PTSA meetings will be held on the second Monday of each month; we will provide meeting details on the J HS website under the PTSA tab (under “Families”). The following link provides information about this year’s Reflections arts contest and its theme of “What is Your Story?”

Entries will be due at school in mid-October; help us spread the word among the Jamestown artists youknow! http://www.pta.org/reflections

Thank you to all our past members for their support, and we invite all JHS families to join us this year. Especially if your family is new to town and/or new to Jamestown, we welcome your involvement, enthusiasm and ideas.

Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer, and we hope to see you soon, supporting our school and our students. Go Eagles!

Best wishes,

Beth Shamaiengar
