Science Olympiad

JHS Students Compete in the Virginia Science Olympiad

On February 25, 14 JHS students competed in 23 different events against 22 other teams at the Virginia Science Olympiad at Fairfax High School.  Some notable successes were a first place in hydrogeology, third place in ecology, and sixth places in both chemistry and remote sensing.  Great job!

Merit finalists

Three JHS Students Named as National Merit Finalists

Congratulations to JHS Seniors Samuel P. Robles-Hinckley, Corey R. Shideler, and Stephen Shamaiengar for being named National Merit Finalists!

The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes academically gifted high school students who scored highest in the Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

 

Of the approximate 1.6 million entrants, only around 15,000 advance to the finalist level.

All Merit Scholar designees are chosen based on their academic records and abilities, regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity or religious views. Scholarship winners will be announced between April until July.

Attention All Spring Sports Athletes:  “Meet the Coach” night is tonight (Monday 2/27) at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria.

The boys Outdoor Track team finished 10th at the State meet. Jordan Willis was all state placing 2nd in the Long Jump,  and 6th in the 300m dash. Jordan Turner placed 4th in the 55m dash. The boys 4 x 200m team was 3rd with  Darius Reed, Zach Pennycuff, Jordan Turner and Jordan Willis. The girls 4 x 800 relay team was all state  placing 5th with the team of Kirsten Long, Taylor Stutt, Lauren Connell, and Thorin Jean! Outdoor Track starts Thursday at 2:45pm at the track!

FBLA Members–our next FBLA meeting is tomorrow during AEP at 10:20 in Room 149.  Please come by Rm 149 to pick up your pass to attend the meeting.

There will be a Model UN meeting today after school.

Attention Juniors: Are you interested in attending the Coast Guard Academy, one of the top engineering schools in the country? On Thursday, February 23rd, an admissions representative will be at Jamestown to meet with juniors about their summer Academy Introduction Mission Program. This is a great opportunity for students interested in all service academies. Sign-up in the Counseling Office to attend.

Attention any boy or girl playing soccer:  There will be one bus for boys + one bus for girls that will take you to the Warhill Sports Complex for practice.  These buses will leave at 2:45 PM Monday thru Friday from the bus loop.  You must provide your own transportation home from Warhill Sports Complex
