March is Disability Awareness Month. We would like to take a moment to share the story of an inspiring person who overcame adversity and represents our need to remember that inclusion matters:

woman in a wheelchair racingBorn with spina bifida, Tanni Grey-Thompson is one of the UK’s most successful disabled athletes. She has won more than 20 medals in the Paralympics as a wheelchair racer.  After her racing career, she was on the boards of several foundations that promote the disabled in sports.  She also served as the Chancellor of Northumbria University and serves as a member of Parliament.

Are you a current 10th or 11th grade student interested in health and medicine? On Friday, March 27th, WJCC will hold Health Careers Day at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.  Come learn about careers in surgical services, nursing, physical therapy, emergency services and more.  Find out what it takes to get into medical school and become a doctor.  Hear from a panel of experts over lunch talk about healthcare education, careers and new programs.  This opportunity takes place during the school day and is limited to 20 students per high school.  Pick up a permission slip from the Counseling office ASAP to secure your spot!

The Williamsburg Relay for Life is going global with a 20/20 Vision…A World Without Cancer — Jamestown will be participating as Team Brazil.  Help us “Carnival for a Cure” by supporting our fundraising efforts and ask your club sponsor to sign you up! Luminary bags are available to buy and decorate in honor or memory of someone with cancer

Next week, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, don’t get caught in a pinch without your green.  As a fundraiser for Relay for life, green beads will be sold for $1 each  See Mrs. Deal in room 206 for any questions about the Relay or any of the fundraisers.
