Congratulations to Nathaniel Baker, who was named a National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist, and Samantha Zhang, Susanna Maize, Benjamin Keener, Thorin Jean, Jeffrey Shi, Ekaterina Savelyeva, and Lehman Montgomery, who were named National Merit Commended Students.

Nathaniel Baker is one of  approximately 16,000 academically qualified semifinalists throughout the nation who will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. Semifinalists placed among the top one percent of more than 1.6 million students across 22,000 high schools who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The students being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
