Jamestown High School - From the Principals Desk

WEEK OF MARCH 10, 2019

A Message from the Principal

Good afternoon,

Last week, our school board named me the principal of Jamestown High School. I am honored to serve this community and look forward to continuing the Jamestown standard of excellence. Previous teachers, students, parents, and school leaders created a high standard for academic excellence, service, art, and athleticism. When I observe classrooms and walk around the building, our students are doing great things!

In just the few months I’ve been charged with leading JHS, I have met a student who scored a perfect score on the ACT, EIGHT National Merit Finalists, state champions in athletics AND academics, students appointed to represent our country, all-state musicians, and award-winning artists! Whew! This list does not cover the caring and service our students bring to the community. Our students volunteer to others in the community through mission trips, reading at elementary schools, and donating goods.

Being a principal is a tough job that demands a constant focus; it is hard. How could one not love working at place with professionals that share a love of learning, where students excel on so many different levels, and a community that values its schools?

I am humbled by the responsibility that our community has entrusted to me.

Let’s go work,

H.E. Townsend, IV

School Construction

New Main Entrance and HVAC Replacement

With Jamestown High School passing the 20 year mark since its construction, various systems and appliances need periodic refurbishment and replacement. Many items in a building have established lifespans that enable organizations to plan for replacement before there is a breakdown that could affect services.

Over the next few weeks, our main entrance will be refurbished to increase security. The change will relocate our school store and security vestibule. Security and attendance will move to the front of the main entrance. The current security vestibule will undergo some reconstruction to meet the needs of the new site of the school store. Primary construction will occur during Spring Break and times when students are not in the building to minimize interruptions.

JHS will continue will phase two of our HVAC replacement this summer. Many of the classrooms will be inaccessible, but main office and counseling departments will stay at the school during the change. However, we will house summer personnel on the Fine Arts hallway.
