Snow events that cancel school can be a great time to bond with family and catch up on work and assignments. However, many of our Jamestown community are still without power. Additionally, the ice and snow has caused damage to cars and homes in our area. While I love the snow, I know it creates hardships for some.
We were going to complete the interim grading process this week, but, with many students and teachers without power, the timetable has been pushed back to accommodate our families. Interim reports should be available for students on or by Friday of this week. Additionally, if a student’s housing, transportation, or power has been interrupted, let the teacher know so that we can make some accommodations. Hopefully, by Wednesday, most families’ power will be restored, but the number of felled trees in Williamsburg-James City County area creates a problem for our Dominion Power workers.
Tomorrow will be a “B” day. After an extended weekend, we will need to get back “into the groove” again. Procedures and patterns help regulate our day-to-day issues and happenings. These routines help guide us, but, like any tool, serve a specific purpose. Routines will not make you great, but they can help. Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric wrote it best:
You’ve got to eat while you dream. You’ve got to deliver on short-range commitments, while you develop a long-range strategy and vision and implement it. The success of doing both. Walking and chewing gum if you will. Getting it done in the short-range, and delivering a long-range plan, and executing on that.
Let’s go to work!
