Principal’s Newsletter: Week of October 21 – 26, 2018

Jamestown High School - From the Principals Desk

A Message from the Principal

Good evening Eagle Families,

October is coming to a close. The weather becomes cooler and we settle into school routines. Every student will have different routines that fit their schedule. Between work, study, and school time, students will sometimes let eating and sleeping take a back seat to current deadlines. Coupled with the cold weather, sleep deprivation and poor eating habits can create a situation ripe for illness. Creating a routine and schedule with your student helps to manage time.

We try to engage students by asking them to think about scheduling time like the way we manage money. There are monthly recurring debts that we must pay. What is left allows us to be flexible. We can start a discussion with our students by looking at our weekly activities. Which activities are mandatory (sleep, school, work, eating, etc), recreational (television, Internet, etc), and a part of responsibilities (sports, music, theater, clubs, work, etc.)? After categorizing the time, think about how much we spend in each category and what it means to our health, relationships, and academic performance.

Every student will have different needs. If you have questions about how to support your student, please contact our counseling department. If there is a particular class or activity that concerns your student’s time management, contact the teacher for some support with regard to student planning and completion.

Thank you,

H.E. Townsend, IV

Interim Principal

Counseling Corner
