Job Summary
The Communications and Digital Design Specialist works with the Director of Public Relations and Community Engagement to effectively promote the school division through various media resources.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Designs, codes and modifies division and school websites based on goals for positive end-user experiences.
- Develops web standards and practices for schools, and ensures compliance with web accessibility requirements as outline in the Americans With Disabilities Act.
- Provides guidance to a network of school-based digital communications liaisons including the development and delivery of annual training.
- Designs all print and digital materials for the division, including marketing materials, handbooks, infographics, presentation resources, etc.
- Develops and maintains attribution guidelines for use of division logos, images, and presentation materials.
- Ensures that the division’s communication protocols are up-to-date and used properly and effectively.
- Manages division’s official social media channels and provides training to principals and digital communication liaisons on best practices for school-level accounts.
- Performs all aspects of video and multimedia production from project conception to successful conclusion with little or no supervision.
- Operates all types of video and multimedia equipment and software related to video production and photography.
- Provides recommendations to departments and schools related to video and graphic requests as well as document creation and publication.
- Assists with crisis and incident communication to ensure timely and accurate delivery of information related to school closings and emergencies.
- Prepares and distributes news releases in collaboration with the Strategic Communications Officer.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in the public sector preferred.
- Deep expertise and hands on experience with web applications and programming languages such as HTML, PHP, CSS and JavaScript.
- Comprehensive knowledge of technology applications utilized to communicate virtually.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a variety of constituents.
- Five to seven years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibilities preferred.

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Performs duties under the supervision of the Strategic Communications Officer.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Highly diverse and complex duties. Must have high tolerance for change and the ability to work on several projects and assignments concurrently. Strong interpersonal skills required in working with diverse groups. Must have initiative and assume responsibility for working productively with minimal supervision.
Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a busy office environment; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
