Coed Running Club

Coed Run/Walk Club School Sponsor (Jennifer Schwaner)

Students will have fun running and will learn basic tips and skills for developing a running routine. They will also improve their self- image and learn how to achieve personal wellness goals for healthy eating and physical activity.  Students will participate in the Sentara Sleighbell 5K on Saturday, December 12th

Description: The Students will be creating DIY (Do It Yourself) Snacks that they can easily prepare at home! Students will learn how to substitute ingredients to make snacking healthier! Students will also learn how to achieve personal wellness goals for healthy eating and physical activity.

Bike Safety

Bike Safely – School Sponsor (Tami Norville)

Description: Students learn skills necessary to participate in a bike rodeo. They will also learn the proper way to wear a helmet, proper hand signals and how to steer and maneuver while riding a bike. During the rodeo, students will navigate through road courses where traffic lights, stop signs and pedestrian crossings are simulated.  All participants will receive a bicycle helmet and will have the opportunity to earn points to be entered to win a bicycle at the program’s completion.

Junior Vet Club

Learn what it takes to be a veterinarian!  The staff of Godspeed Animal Care and Heritage Humane Society will bring in a variety of animals (dogs, rabbits, reptiles, birds) and teach basic animal care to all the “junior vets” in the club.  Be prepared for a fun, hands-on experience!  NOTE:   Students in the Junior Vet Club will be exposed to and may handle dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and other animals.

Chinese Club

Technology Club

Students will learn how to create a Pong Video game by using Scratch 2 (this is a coding program created by MIT). They will also learn about Geocaching and using GPS coordinates to find “treasures”. We will be using computers and GPS devices with longitude and latitude.

Discover how Egyptians construct pyramids, learn how to tell time using the sun, mummify animals, create your own mummy, and decode Egyptian hieroglyphs!   Join the Egyptology club and learn ancient secrets of this mysterious civilization.

Want to learn how to take a better photograph? Do you know you can take a great photo using a very simple camera? No need to have a big expensive camera to take a great shot! Come learn about composition, lighting, and depth of focus. You’ll learn to take better family portraits, candid shots of friends, vacation photos, and more while also learning the tricks of the trade to become a news photographer!  If you have a camera at home, please bring it with you to each club meeting.  Please do not bring Smart Phones.

We want to show you interesting ways to begin your science fair experiments and represent the data that you gather. We will help you with the traditional board project OR we can assist with your Power Point presentations.

Yoga Club

In Yoga Club, you will learn many poses such as Tree, Bow, Warrior, Cobra, Camel, Eagle, Down Dog, and more.    You will build your strength, balance, flexibility and concentration.  You will also learn breathing and relaxation techniques that will improve your sense of calmness.  We will play fun yoga games, act out exciting yoga stories, practice “partner poses” and hear some cool music.
