  • Seniors – Randolph College will conduct on-site admissions Tuesday, January 13th at 10:30am in the counseling department. Application fees will be waived and you can submit the common application. For any questions please see Ms. Adkins, career coach, or your counselor.
  • Students planning to apply to the 2015 Summer Residential Governor’s School Academic or Mentorship Programs please stop by office 611 in the counseling suite to see Ms. Hanks-Nicoll between 7:00am and 1:00pm on Wednesday, December 17thfor an important update. If more convenient you may leave your e-mail address on the clipboard in my office before Wednesday
  • Reminder to Mu Alpha Theta members: The induction ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 16, at 3:00, in the Lecture Hall. New and existing members should attend. It will count as the December meeting.
  • Attention Spanish Honor Society Members:  We will have our winter celebration on Tuesday, December 16th immediately after school in room 302.  Nos vemos.

New student art

Check out the new artwork displays near the stairway by the upper commons. Mrs. Grant’s students have been working really hard this semester, and their efforts really show! Make sure you look soon, because many of these pieces will be submitted to This Century Art Gallery’s Annual High School Art Exhibit. This show is a prestigious juried regional exhibit, and those who are accepted into the show will have their work displayed in the gallery and a chance at winning cash prizes. If you are interested in visiting the This Century Art Gallery exhibit, the Annual High School Art Exhibit will be on display from 1/13 through 2/13.  Contact Mrs. Grant for more details.

Earth Science tutoring will be in the Upper Commons during AEP today (you should have a pass from Mrs. Colorado if you are a part of this AEP tutoring). Financial Aid seminar

Lafayette recently hosted a Financial Aid seminar for seniors and their parents. Lauren Jones from the Educational Opportunity Center, Jonathan Butler from Old Dominion University, and Nicole Derry from Thomas Nelson Community College all participated on the panel.

  • Students after school tutoring for January SOL tests will be held for Reading and Geometry today at dismissal. Please check your letter or see Mrs. Colorado in room 600 for the location.
  • LHS Key Club is holding a mitten, scarf, hat and sock drive for the Salvation Army through Wednesday, December 10th. You can drop off your donations in your first block in the provided boxes. The class with the most donations will win a Bagel breakfast from Panera on Tuesday, December 16th. See Mackenzie Wilson, Key Club President, for details.
  • There will be a Debate meeting after school Tuesday in the library. Please come if you are interested in joining the group. In addition, the Saturday meeting has been cancelled.
  • There will be a short meeting of the Science Honor Society today after school in room 315.
  • Seniors – the Financial Aid Information Session will take place tonight from 6pm to 7pm in the lecture hall here at LHS. This session is for parents and students. Please attend if planning to attend college, technical or vocational school.
  • Lit Mag will meet Wednesday Dec. 10 at 2:30 in room 102
  • Students who are taking the Work Keys writing test on Wednesday- please check in with your 4th block teacher today then go to Room 113A for your Boot Camp. On Thursday, please go to Room 113A after the pledge to take your test.
  • We would like to congratulate our Boys and Girls Indoor Track teams for their performance at the Real Deal track meet this past weekend at Boo Williams. Of over 55 teams competing, the Girls finished 3rd with 58 points and the Boys finished 4th with 54 points. Way to go!

Ram Football heading to the 3A State Championship.

Rams will be heading to Liberty University for the 3A State Championship.  They will play Magna Vista @ 12pm on December 13, 2014.   They reached the big game by beating Western Albmarle 33-14 in a rain soaked win.  This will be the first trip back to the championship in 12 years (2002).

Congratulations to the Girls JV Basketball team for their 52 / 24 victory over Grafton last night. Leading the way was Alyssa Hogan with 13 points, Kasiah Grant with 11 points and Talisha Hairston with 10 points.
