  • Attention student drivers – it’s time for Spring parking passes.  If you are parking on school grounds you are required to have a Spring parking pass.  See Mrs. Weaver today to renew or purchase your parking pass.
  • Attention Juniors & Seniors – your school resource officer, Officer McLaughlin, is seeking participants for this years “Every 30 Minutes” program.  Every 30 minutes someone dies in an alcohol related vehicle crash.  This event is to help high school students to understand the extreme consequences of drinking and driving.  A meeting for participants will be on Thursday, February 5th after school in the lecture hall. If interested, please see Office McLaughlin to sigh-up.
  • Attention Students – if you are interested in joining the LHS Book Club, please let the library know by Monday, February 2nd.  The first book we will be reading is The Testing, which was voted one of the top ten books of 2013 by teenagers across the country. Once we are finished reading, we will meet for snacks and get the opportunity to skype with the author.
  • Attention students – the library will be closing at 2:30 all this week.  We will resume with our normal schedule on Monday, February 2nd.
  • Any student wishing to propose an independent Honors Project for the February Honors Proposal meeting please see Ms. Hanks-Nicoll in guidance room 611 by Tuesday, February 10th.
  • Attention students – if you finished a Virtual Virginia class please return your textbooks to the library ASAP…thank you.
  • The AEP choir will not meet today, we will meet again on Tuesday, February 3rd.

  • Attention Spanish Honor Society Members – please get your tutoring hours to Sra. Marzana by Friday, January 30th in order to determine your eligibility for the second semester, Gracias.
  • Attention Students – if you are interested in joining the LHS Book Club, please let the library know by Monday, February 2nd.  The first book we will be reading is The Testing, which was voted one of the top ten books of 2013 by teenagers across the country. Once we are finished reading, we will meet for snacks and get the opportunity to skype with the author.

  •  The Lafayette Lady Rams defeated the Jamestown Eagles Tuesday with a score of 57 / 50. They were led by Rachel Lia with 27 points, Raven Blake with 9 points and 13 rebounds, Kenya Holiday with 7points, Megan Wiltshire with 5 points and sophomore Talisha Hairston with 3 points and 7 rebounds.  The Lady Rams play Poquoson at home tonight so please come out and support them.
  •  Congratulation to our Indoor Track & Field with some outstanding performances for the girls – Alexus Brender A’ Brandis, Indyah Brown, Serenity Chavez, Brooke Crookston,  Audrey Hurley, Sarah Jeon, Megan Jones, Delaney Savedge, Kathryn Tomczak, and Alexus Wells.  And for the boys – Derrick Abson, Derrick Harris, James Hart, Andrew Loper, Cade Moreno, Konrad Steck, and Josiah Wells.

  • There will be no IPAASS for student athletes today.  IPAASS will not begin until February 10th.  Students will be issued new passes.

  • Congratulations to the girls JV basketball team for their 58-31 win over Jamestown. Leading all scorers was Paola Territo with 16 points. Also playing well was Brie Gillian with 13 points, Kasiah Grant had 10 points, Madison Vick with 10 points, and Miya Richard with 9. Excellent effort ladies, keep up the hard work.

PTSA provides snacks

Thanks to the Lafayette PTSA who provided coffee, cocoa, and snacks to teachers during finals. The goodies were greatly appreciated!

LHS students recognized for academic achievement

The NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics is a major youth initiative designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. The following students were recognized for their academic achievements at the Martin Luther King, Jr. ACT-SO Awards Breakfast on Monday, January 19th, 2014:

  • THERE WILL NO AFTER SCHOOL VARSITY OR JV SPORTS PRACTICES TODAY INCLUDING SOFTBALL AND BASEBALL TONIGHT AT JAMES BLAIR.  ALL ATHLETES ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE THIS TIME TO STUDY FOR THEIR FINAL EXAMS.
