Architectural Design Students Learn About Safety & Inspections

Thomas Coghill, the Director of James City County Building Safety & Permits Department, recently visited Mr. Aadahl’s Architectural Design class. Mr. Coghill discussed the ins and outs of serving JCC citizens and protecting their property. Mr. Coghill reflected that through the thousands of inspections and plan reviews that take place each year, citizens are made safer their everyday lives.

The History on Film club presents “Black Hawk Down” on Tuesday, March 15th at 2:30 in the lecture hall.  Come and enjoy popcorn & drinks and witness the story based on the best-selling book detailing a near-disastrous mission in Somalia in 1993 where U.S. Army Rangers were lower by helicopter into Somalia to destabilize the government and bring food and humanitarian aid to the starving population.

Seniors – Cap & Gown photos will be taken on Thursday, March 17th. Sign up on the signup sheet located outside the media center on the yearbook bulletin board.  There will be a $25 sitting fee due at the time of your photography session.

The Bayport student run credit union is now collecting any change; pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters for different charity events that will be held every week, this week it’s The American Heart Association.  These events are open to teachers and students so come on down to the Bayport desk to drop off your change for a good cause.

Lit-mag will meet today after school in room 103.

There will be an important FCCLA meeting today at 2:30 in room 417.  Please see Mrs. Carter if you cannot attend.

Attention students – anyone interested in wrestling conditioning please come to the wrestling room (door 17) today after school. No experience is necessary and all are welcome.

The Bayport student run credit union is having a contest, all student and staff members will need to wear their Bayport shirts as often as possible.  Swing by the Bayport desk when you’re wearing your shirt and we will snap a photo of you and at the end of the week a tally will be drawn and a $10 gift card will be given to the winner.

Students, don’t miss your chance to speak with a published author.  The library will be Skyping with Young Adult author, Beth Revis, afterschool on Thursday, April 28th.  Students will be able to ask her questions about the books she has written, as well as her writing process.  Stop by the media center for more information.

This past weekend the following 6 Lafayette DECA students traveled to Virginia Beach to compete in the DECA State Leadership Competition: Moya Breakcliffe, Jennifer McGuire, Madison Meredith, Kesha Patel, Bridget Hamel, and Heaven Heatherly. Our DECA chapter would like to congratulate Kesha Patel, Bridget Hamel & Heaven Heatherly who won first place in the state in the category of Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research Event. They have qualified to compete at the International level at DECA’s International Career Development Conference at the end of April in Nashville Tennesse.

This past weekend at the Boo Williams Showcase, Mike Tyler won the high jump with 6’ 10”. He also was 2nd in the triple jump.  He was the MVP of meet.  Derrick Abson was 3rd in the 400m  .  Alexis Brender Brandis was 3rd in the triple jump.  Audrey Hurley placed 4th in the 400m.  Derrick Abson was 4th in the triple jump.  Robert Walton was 6th in the shot put.  Lafayette girls were 3rd in the 4 by 200m  relay. The team consisted of; Alexis Brender Brandis, Kasiah Blake, Kenya Holiday and Selena Jones.  The boys were 7th in the 4 by 200m relay. This team consisted of  Rashawn Smith, Mike Tyler, Queshon Sharpless and Derrick Abson.  Araya Morgado finished 7th in the shot put.  Noah Cane finished 6th in the triple jump.  Cameron Battles placed 7th in the triple jump. Robert Walton placed 6th in the shot put.   Selena Jones was 8th in the triple jump.

Calculus in 3D

Mrs. Hanks’ AP Calculus class visited the Media Center’s Creation station. They used TinkerCad to calculate and create triangular cross-sections of a circle, then printed them on the Media Center’s new 3D printer.

Art club members – there will be no art club today.

The National Art Honor Society will hold a meeting on Wednesday, March 2 at 2:30 in room 103, all members must attend.

Bayport is now selling t-shirts at our desk; they are free for student members only.  The cost is $10.00 for teachers and non-members.  Existing members wear your Bayport t-shirt on a Tuesday and stop by the Bayport desk so your name can be entered into a monthly drawing for a $25.00 gift card. 

This past weekend,  the boys’ track team placed 3rd in the state.  Mike Tyler was the state champion in the high jump.  Konrad Steck was 2nd in the 1600 meters with a time of 4 min. and 15 sec. He was also 4th in the 1,000 meters.  The girls’ team placed 5th in the state.  Audrey Hurley was 3rd in the 500 meters. She was also 4th in the 300 meters. Delaney Savedge was 4th in the 3200 meters.  Axelis Brender-Brandis was 2nd in the triple jump.
