Also, the Homecoming Dance is Saturday, October 6th from 8-11 pm.  Tickets go on sale beginning today ONLY during all lunches!  No tickets will be sold at the door.

Do you want to meet new people? Like playing cards? Or better yet, want learn a new activity that will interest colleges? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, consider joining Bridge Club! Stop by room 402 this week before or after school to pick up information. The first meeting will be Monday, October 1, in room 402. No experience necessary; just a desire to learn and have fun.

Anyone interested in joining the Latin Club for the 2018-19 school year should come to the auditorium during AEP on Tuesday, October 2. Please see Ms. Shuler for a pass, and more information.

Key Club will be meeting Wednesday, October 3rd, at 2:30 in room 304. Please bring clean t-shirts to donate for making dog toys to Ms. Buchanan in room 107, as soon as possible.

Juniors and seniors: college visits occurring next week are Radford and Old Dominion on Wednesday, and Hollins and Davidson on Friday. The deadline to sign up for a pass is 1:00 pm the day before the visit. See Mrs. Shaver in guidance for more information.

DECA officer applications are due to Mrs. Napier in room 415 today. Officers will be elected at our meeting on Wednesday, September 26, after school in room 415.

Students! Homecoming Court nominations can be made during all three lunches today and tomorrow.

LHS clubs and activities taking place this afternoon are:

– Literary Arts Magazine in room 103
– Preseason wrestling work outs in the wrestling room – door 17.
– Senior Parent Night at 5:30 in the auditorium

What is Forensics? Is it a science club? Is it dealing with blood samples? No, it is a public speaking team that has 10 different categories, and is a VHSL academic sport! Don’t miss our first meeting tomorrow, in the Black Box theatre, room 623.

Lafayette named Blue Star School

Congratulations to Lafayette High School for being named a a Blue Star School for the 2017-2018 academic year! To qualify for this award, a school must have achieved a 80% passing rate on the Financial Literacy Certification Test and have EITHER a majority of students on a given grade level take the Test OR have the students who took it achieve an average score of 85% or higher. This is no small feat! We are truly proud of our students’ accomplishment.

Students!  Homecoming Court nominations will be held during all three lunches today, Tuesday, and Wednesday, September 24th through the 26th.

Literary Arts Magazine will have its first meeting tomorrow after school in room 103 until 3:30 for both returning and new members.

Preseason wrestling work outs begin tomorrow at 2:30 in the wrestling room – door 17. No experience necessary! Just bring shorts and a workout shirt. This is a great way to gain strength and be a part of a team here at LHS. Please see Mr. Wiatt in room 624 for information.

Seniors – the School Counseling Department will be hosting a Senior Parent Night tomorrow at 5:30pm in the auditorium. This is a great opportunity to learn about the college admissions process, financial aid and scholarships. See your counselor for more information.

Don’t miss out on Lafayette’s VHSL academic sports team, Forensics! The first meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 26th. This team is OPEN to ALL STUDENTS! No experience necessary! Meeting is after school in the Black Box Theatre, room 623. Snacks and drinks provided! See Mrs. McCorry for any questions.

LHS Faculty and Staff – Please join us during all three lunches today for a Latin Dance competition! At the end, you can vote for your favorite dancer, and a prize will be awarded to the winner. You’re more than welcome to join in the fun. Don’t know how to dance to Latin music?  Come and learn!

National Art Honor Society is accepting applications for membership. Please see Mrs. Bahl-Moore in room 103, if interested.  Applications are due Oct. 15.
