- TNCC Dual Enrollment – Dual Enrollment credit is offered through Thomas Nelson Community College for certain classes taught at your high school. Ask your counselor for a list of eligible classes. Students must be a junior or senior and will need to apply to TNCC, test for eligibility by taking the college placement test, and register for the course. The Career Coach is available to help students with the application process.
Start Training for a Career While in High School!
- New Horizons Career and Technical Education Center – Provides career and technical education to high school students on the VA Peninsula. Students attend half-day at New Horizons and half-day at their home high school. Some popular programs include: Automotive Technology, Carpentry, HVAC, Electronics/Robotics, Welding, Dental/Medical/Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Veterinary Science, Computer Networking, Criminal Justice, EMT, Fire Fighting, Cosmetology/Barbering, Culinary Arts and more! Students who are interested in attending a program within the Career and Technical Education Center should speak to their Counselor!
- Governor’s Academy for Innovation, Technology and Engineering (GAITE) – Engineering Technology focus. Graduates of the Academy will have earned industry credentials and/or transferable college credits to TNCC, ODU and Northrop Grumman Apprentice School. Graduates will also receive employment consideration with NASA, Northrop Grumman, Canon, Alcoa Howmet and other local businesses upon completion of college training.
