PTA Receives $500 from Papa Murphy’s Spirit Week Fundraiser

PIMG_0095-2apa Murphy’s Pizza donated $500.00 to the Matoaka P.T.A. after sponsoring a recent spirit week fundraiser. The PTA thanks Papa Murphy’s for the donation and Matoaka kids thank their parents for getting pizza for dinner!

Author Peter Brown Visits Matoaka

Thanks to a partnership with the Williamsburg Regional Library, Author Peter Brown visited Matoaka to speak with students in grades 1-3 about his books, the writing process, and his illustration techniques. Brown is the award winning author/illustrator of many picture books for children, the illustrator of both picture books and chapter books, and the author of a soon to be published novel for kids, The Wild Robot.  To learn more about Peter Brown visit his website.


Fathers and Special Guests Attend Matoaka Breakfast with Dad

Over 300 Matoaka fathers took the time to enjoy breakfast with their children at Matoaka thanks to a PTA sponsored “Breakfast with Dad” event. Also in attendance were Congressman Rob Whitman, Delegate Brenda Pogge, and school board members Ruth Lawson, Elise Emanuel, and Heather Cordasco.

Healthy Living Resources from SHIP

The WJCC School Health Initiative Program (SHIP) has created some helpful resources for parents and teachers including Pinterest boards and a Facebook page. The Pinterest boards feature a variety of useful topics for parents, teachers, and students.  Check out our “Healthy Halloween Party Ideas” Board with great ideas for school and home.  We also have Boards for cooking with kids, healthy family dinners, active learning at school and home, and many more! Click here to follow us on Pinterest.

The SHIP Facebook page lets everyone know about upcoming events and programs at our schools and in our community.  Saturday, October 17th SHIP will be at The Williamsburg Farmers Market with fun games and prizes for kids – read about it on Facebook. Click here to like us on Facebook.
