Welcome to the Matoaka Computer Lab!  I am the Computer Resource Teacher for Matoaka Elementary.  I teach grades K-5 in the computer lab each week.  Please explore my website for information about our technology curriculum, computer lab projects, and links to fun and educational websites for parents and students.

Our technology inventory includes document cameras,  iPods, iPads, teacher and student laptop and desktop computers, printers, scanners, overhead projection systems, digital cameras , wireless Internet access for our laptops, and a wide variety of software.  We are preparing our students to be academically competitive and technologically literate citizens.

Matoaka Technology Statement

The faculty and staff of Matoaka believe that infusing technology into classroom instruction will create students who are academically competitive, technologically literate, motivated and engaged in the learning process. Students will be given the opportunity to acquire a high level of information literacy. Students will have the ability to access, evaluate, process and communicate information in order to improve their learning, excel in state educational standards and succeed in the workplace and society.

The technology/computer curriculum is one in which many topics overlap and repeat at increasing levels of complexity through the grades.  I have outlined some of the skills and topics we cover at different grade levels.   As much as possible, I focus on supporting the grade level curriculum.

Kindergarten students learn the different parts of the computer, learn to use the mouse, and learn  to use various software programs and educational websites.

1st Grade

First graders learn to save and open files, to access and use websites, and to begin to utilize a variety of software for word processing, drawing, publishing, and creating multimedia presentations.

2nd & 3rd Grade

Second and third graders focus on becoming proficient in using word processing, drawing, publishing, presentation, and multimedia programs.  They open, edit and save files, access a variety of educational websites for research and special projects, and use educational software programs for language arts and math.

4th & 5th Grade

Fourth and fifth graders use a variety of software programs for research and learning that supports their core curriculum.  Students also learn to use spreadsheet programs such as Excel, and multimedia programs such as Movie Maker and Photo Story.  Students also complete formal keyboarding instruction.
