WJCC Elementary Orchestra Solo Festival

On Saturday, March 23, 93 5th grade orchestra students converged on Matoaka Elementary School to participate in our WJCC Elementary Orchestra Solo Festival.  These students performed with great poise, confidence, and musicianship.  We are very proud to announce that 20 of these students were from Matoaka Elementary School and received a Superior rating on their performance.  They have been awarded a beautiful medal for their outstanding achievement.  Congratulations Matoaka Orchestra students!

Matoaka Safety Patrol: Keeping Our School Safe for Everyone

Written by: Frances S. & Michelle Z. (5th Grade)

Being a safety patroller is a huge honor. But it’s not all unicorns and rainbows.  It takes responsibility too. You also need patience, because some kids are harder to handle than others. So that takes a lot of practice and patience. Some people think safety patrol is a piece of cake but no, no, no. It’s, in fact, far from that. If you’re safety patrol outside, like us, you must be prepared to stand outside, where it’s cold and sometimes raining. And you must be there slightly early, so that the captains can check your name on the safety patrol attendance list. If you are indoors, you must be aware that some people like to linger and talk to friends. So, ask them nicely to go to class. That’s probably it! So, all safety patrollers remember to SOAR!

Frances and Michelle are in 5th Grade and enjoy reading.
