Did you know this year is the 50th anniversary of the Reflections competition? This contest gives students a chance to use their creativity! This year’s theme is “Heroes Around Me”, and submissions are due on Friday, November 9. Students can submit in the literature, photography, or visual arts categories this year. Entry forms and information are available in the main office and in Mr. Oppecker’s room. We look forward to seeing all of the many talents our Patriots possess!
Wednesday, October 24th has been designated the annual Unity Day! It is a day to signify being a buddy, not a bully and promoting kindness throughout our schools. Please help us recognize this day by having your child wear orange to school on Wednesday. We are saying “Boo!” to bullying!
Mattey’s Garden is getting lots of use this year! Kindergarten went out to plant some garlic recently and first grade hung out with the pumpkins and stuffed a scarecrow. We are always in need of volunteers to tend to Mattey’s Garden if you’re interested in helping out! Our next work day in the garden is Saturday, October 27th from 2-5pm.
Mr. Oppecker and his Thursday morning art club got busy this week creating projects before starting their school day. We love our before and after school club opportunities!
WJCC Safe Routes to School has partnered up with Matthew Whaley to participate in the “Walk and Roll” incentive program! Once a month, we will hold a walk or bike to school event starting from WRL to Matthew Whaley at 8:45 a.m. Our kick-off is Tuesday, October 23rd! Join our SHIP Walking Adventure Club Ambassadors and other fellow Patriots as we “walk and roll” this week! Please see the attached flyer for our schedule through January 2019:
SHIP volunteers have been in our school offering fresh vegetable samplings and the students are loving it! After they have sampled a vegetable, they get a sticker that says “Today Was A Try Day!” We love healthy eating options and SHIP for promoting wellness.
Join us for our PTA’s first Spirit Night at Panera on Monticello Ave Thursday, Oct 18th from 4-8 pm! A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit all of the wonderful things our PTA does for us throughout the year. Show the attached flyer to the cashier either printed or electronically to give MW credit. We hope to see you all there!
