Congratulations to Norge Readers’ Choice Students

Congratulations 2017 Readers’ Choice Kids!

All of the fourth and fifth grade students who participated in this year’s Readers’ Choice had a celebration lunch on April 28 in the Media Center.

Readers’ Choice is a program that encourages students to read and comprehend a variety of high quality books.  Each year the program starts in September and students have until spring break to read at least 7 out of the 14 books on the list and pass a comprehension test for each.

This year, Norge had 17 fourth graders and 15 fifth graders participate.  As a bonus, 12 of the Readers’ Choice students read all 14 books!

The 4th and 5th grade students also voted on their favorite book from the Readers’ Choice list:

  • 1st place:  Rump: the True Story of Rumpelstiltskin
  • 2nd place:  The One and Only Ivan
  • 3rd place: Fortunately, the Milk

Principal Matthews Reads “Petite Rouge” to First Graders

Principal Matthews read “Petite Rouge” written by Mike Artell to a group of first graders learning about folktales in the Media Center on Thursday, April 27.  This is a Cajun version of the classic story of “Little Red Riding Hood.”  The students loved her Cajun accent!

Judy Fulks is the 2017 Norge Support Employee of the Year

Congratulations to Mrs. Judy Fulks, the 2017 Norge Support Employee of the Year!

This is the second year for the WJCC annual Support Employee of the Year recognition program. WJCC Public Schools are honoring one Support Employee of the Year from each school and non-school based departments.

All of our support staff deserve recognition for their commitment to our schools, departments and most importantly, our students! Support staff are an integral part of the WJCC Public School success! If you need convincing further, ask a child to name 3 employees of the WJCC Public Schools and chances are they’ll name their favorite school bus driver, food service worker, or custodian.

Judy was nominated and voted on by her peers at Norge.

Norge Celebrates Earth Day

Norge celebrated Earth Day on April 21st at 9:45 outside on the blacktop.  All students and staff gathered to hear the program and learn important ways we can help our environment.  The SCA officers led the program, teaching us how to take care of the Earth, telling us what we can do to support the clean efforts, and giving us many facts about littering and pollution on our planet.  During the program, the water bottle recycling competition winners were announced and won prizes.  Mrs. Turner also led the second grade as they sang a few Earth Day songs as well as the Advanced Recorders playing “Colors of the Wind”.  The Norge community is ready and motivated to keep our Earth clean!

Mrs. Beatty’s Class Builds Nests for Peeps Candy

Fourth graders in Mrs. Beatty’s class had a challenge to make a new nest for the Peeps family out of toothpicks and jelly beans.  The nest had to be at least 4 inches off of the flat surface.  Many Peeps families found new homes!
