Students walked laps during their centers time on Friday, October 27 for the annual PTA Walkathon! Racer the Roadrunner walked laps and danced to the music. Students were marked for each lap by their superhero centers teachers and parent volunteers. Victoria Jamieson came to Norge on Thursday, October 19 to talk to third, fourth and fifth grade students about what it is like to be an author/illustrator. She told stories from her life and showed the students how those stories were incorporated into many of her books that she has written and illustrated. The students also enjoyed watching her draw as she demonstrated how she uses illustrations in her graphic novels.
Ms. Parsons’ second grade class teamed up with 3-5 Visions teacher Mrs. Collins for a STEM activity about magnets. Students learned about how magnets can help prevent cows from getting a serious illness called “hardware disease.” Veterinarians insert a large magnet into one of the cow’s first 4 stomachs to prevent it from digesting harmful bits of metal. Students designed and created devices that use magnets to solve problems with bits of metal.
