This year the Chinese New Year is February 5. In preparation for it, Ms. Chen, mother of Jayden in kindergarten and Liam in second grade, came in to share a tradition with Mrs. Carlsen and Mrs. Perry’s kindergarten class. Ms. Chen showed the class how to make dumplings, which represent good fortune for the New Year. 2019 is the Year of the Pig.
Mrs. Carlsen’s class also welcomed Mrs. Taradena, mother of Jordyn in kindergarten and Ryan in third grade, who shared an Italian folk story of La Befana. La Befana is an old woman who travels on a broomstick and delivers small gifts such as chocolates and candies to children in Italy on Epiphany Eve (January 5th).
