Celebrate WJCC Schools Hidden Heroes: Transportation

Published On: August 22nd, 2023

Big wheels keep on turning at WJCC Schools! From your home to ours, the WJCC Schools transportation team is like one big family. This team ensures students are transported to and from school, athletic events and field trips safely. Caring drivers and aides are some of the first and last faces students see each day. They are not only responsible for transporting students safely, but they also offer a friendly face to students.

What you may not know is our bus drivers navigate more than 188 square miles of Williamsburg and James City County roadways, traveling almost two million miles each school year. That’s about 11,000 miles traveled daily.

Despite bus driver shortages in Virginia last year, the WJCC Schools transportation team successfully transported students with a 90% on-time rating. Supporting drivers are our dispatchers who answer driver and family questions, routers who plan bus routes and trainers who help on-board new and veteran drivers and aides.
