Homecoming

Be on the lookout for Homecoming Celebration information. School administrators are working with students in planning the festivities for their schools. Because of COVID, prep rallies and indoor dances are not part of the celebration. However, each school is planning an outside activity and recognizing Homecoming Courts at their Homecoming Game.

  • Jamestown: Oct. 8
  • Lafayette: Oct. 22
  • Warhill: Oct. 29

Information on specific school Homecoming activities will be communicated by the schools.

Transportation Update

Since the school time change began Monday, on-time afternoon bus service has improved by 26%. As a reminder, the adjusted schedule will be in place through Sept. 30. Once we have gathered and reviewed all of the data, we will decide if this change will be extended. Please check next week’s family newsletter for an update.

Virtual Learning Day Oct. 1

Mark your calendars. Next Friday, Oct. 1, is the division’s first designated K-12 Virtual Learning Day for the school year. The schedule includes live, teacher-led instruction and independent activities and assignments using Zoom and Canvas. If your family needs internet access, please call the school’s main office right away to talk about options. 

To help prepare for the virtual learning day, parents and guardians can create a Canvas parent/observer account to get information about their child’s courses, calendars, teacher feedback, and more. These accounts can also link more than one student to an existing observer account.

COVID Information

Get the latest WJCC COVID data by visiting our COVID Dashboard. The dashboard information includes: 

  • Weekly updated vaccine rates for staff and students
  • Daily updated quarantine numbers
  • Daily updated isolation numbers
  • Daily updated COVID positive cases by schools

Special Education Parent Survey

Parents who have a child receiving special education services in  WJCC Public Schools are asked to complete a survey offered by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).  The information gathered will help identify special education training needs and improve outcomes for special education students. To give your input, please complete the VDOE Family Engagement Survey (English/Spanish).

All responses are recorded anonymously and are not linked to a specific student. If you have more than one student receiving special education services, please submit an anonymous survey for each child.  Please direct any questions that you might have to the Department of Special Education at 757.603.6464.
