School Board Approves Substitute Pay Increase

Substitute teachers, bus drivers and nurses are in high demand across Virginia and the U.S. to cover short and long-term staff absences and provide continuity for students.

Recognizing that these high-demand roles make a significant impact on school operations and ultimately, the education of WJCC students, the school board voted to approve a pay increase effective January 1, 2023 through the end of the school year.

A new rate was also added: Certified teachers who substitute in the classroom will earn $200 daily. WJCC Schools is excited to add more former teachers to its substitute pool to enhance the work of our substitute educators.

Full-time virtual learning for 2023-2024

Interested and qualified students may enroll in full-time virtual learning for the 2023-2024 school year. Beginning next year, full-time virtual learning will be facilitated through Virtual Virginia.

Students who may be successful in a full-time virtual learning environment are self-disciplined, organized, committed, critical thinkers, and computer literate. As younger learners continue to develop these skills, successful elementary-age Virtual Virginia students may need greater adult support to maintain discipline in their studies.

Students who have not been successful in Virtual Virginia or in the WJCC Schools Virtual Academy may not be accepted in the 2023-2024 Virtual Virginia program.

Interested families should contact Erika Leckie for a copy of the application. The application deadline is February 3 and decisions will be made and communicated to families by the end of February.
