Friday, June 9, becomes Student Holiday
At its November 1, 2022, meeting, the School Board adopted a change to the current 2022-2023 school calendar. Friday, June 9, 2023, was scheduled as a regular attendance day but now becomes a Student Holiday. Students in grades preK-12 will not report to school on Friday, June 9.
WJCC Schools still meets and exceeds state required instructional hours over the course of the year, even with the shift of June 9 to a student non-attendance day. Thursday, June 15, remains the tentative last day of school, however, as the winter season approaches, please remember make up days or virtual learning days will be determined at the discretion of the Superintendent. Please note that if inclement weather is particularly impactful this season, Friday, April 28, 2023, may become an attendance day for students (currently a Student Holiday).
Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2023 will be held on Friday, June 9. As a result of construction at Kaplan Arena, ceremonies will be held at the Hampton Coliseum. Choosing an indoor venue was important to WJCC Schools as it allows families to plan for a confirmed celebration now, rather than selecting an outdoor venue where actually holding ceremonies could be dependent on weather. The closest indoor venue that can accommodate our guests is the Coliseum.
More details for families of graduates will follow in the coming weeks. More details will also be shared with staff in the coming weeks about professional responsibilities on June 9, 2023.
