James City County Board of Supervisors discuss joint operation of school system

Published On: June 26th, 2024

On June 26, WJCC Schools families and staff received an email from Dr. Herron referencing a report released by the James City County Board of Supervisors during its June 25 meeting.

Good afternoon,

In June 2023, the City of Williamsburg announced its plan to conduct a feasibility study regarding the possibility of running its own school system separate from James City County. Following this, James City County elected to conduct its own study. Discussion and the presentation of the study took place during yesterday’s Board of Supervisors meeting and the report can be reviewed here.

During the presentation, the county outlined next steps and opportunities for the public to provide feedback this fall:

    • Public Information and Listening Sessions in August and September 2024
    • Focus Group Experiences in September 2024 for a deeper dive into stakeholder sentiment and perspective
    • Stakeholder survey provided throughout September 2024 to capture wider public input
    • Report to JCC BOS in November 2024 to determine next steps in process

I will continue to update you as this process unfolds. To review past communication on the topic, please click here. As always, we will continue to deliver the finest instruction, support, and services to our community.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Olwen Herron, Ed.D.
Superintendent
