Jamestown High School Named a Virginia Naturally School

Jamestown High School has been recognized by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources as a Virginia Naturally School.

The Virginia Naturally School program honors Virginia schools that integrate environmental literacy into their curricula, promoting authentic, hands-on, real-world learning and connecting classroom education with field experiences and STEM/civic engagement.

Jamestown High School was recognized because of the classroom and field experiences taking place in its Field Biology classes.

“In Field Biology, students not only learn how to identify plants and animals in their diverse local ecosystems, they also learn how scientists study those organisms,” said Jamestown High School teacher Rebecca Elton. “They practice research techniques that are used by field biologists and citizen scientists to better understand the interconnectedness of the natural world and how to protect it.”
