Kindergarten is officially in full swing across Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, and for many of our youngest learners, the school year began with an extra opportunity to feel comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.

Several WJCC schools participated in the Kindergarten Orientation Model, designed to help rising kindergarteners and their families make a smooth and successful transition to elementary school.

The model provides students with an opportunity to become familiar with their new school environment, meet educators, and begin building a sense of comfort and belonging before settling into the school year. At the same time, school staff have valuable time to meet students and learn more about each child’s individual strengths, needs, and interests.

By creating space for students and staff to get to know one another early, the Kindergarten Orientation Model helps lay the foundation for a positive start to the kindergarten experience.

We are excited to see our newest WJCC students learning, growing, and making memories as they begin this important new chapter!
