WJCC students have been taking advantage of spring mornings and afternoons to walk and bike to school. At Laurel Lane, Clara Byrd Baker and Norge, one is likely to see the family dog and little brothers or sisters in strollers and Mom and Dad on bikes as well.

Norge students are ready to try out what they learned in their Bike Safety SHIP club with BikeWalk Williamsburg volunteers and Ms. Miller, the SHIP club facilitator.

On a recent Walk to School Day, a Clara Byrd Baker family enjoys the beautiful spring morning and students collect Walk and Roll incentive prizes.

Bike Safety education is being taught at Norge Elementary School in collaboration with School Health Initiative Program (SHIP) and BikeWalk Williamsburg. Students are enjoying practicing what they learn. The club’s facilitator is Ms. Lynn Miller, Norge’s library assistant and a bicycle enthusiast.

Upcoming events include:

In April, Earth Day Walk and Roll Events will be held at SRTS target sites to celebrate those using self-powered transportation not only for the physical fitness benefits, but also to protect our environment. More information will be disseminated through individual schools’ communication networks.

Districtwide Bicycle Rodeo in collaboration with BikeWalk Williamsburg will be held on April 28 at the YMCA as part of Sentara’s Safe Kids Day event.
