A picture of the Norge Elementary School Bicycle Safety Club was featured in the Virginia Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School Director’s newsletter. [VDOT Safe Routes to School Coordinator’s Newsletter] This club is a collaboration between Safe Routes to School, SHIP and BikeWalk Williamsburg. The picture only hints at the students’ excitement and the enthusiasm of the club’s facilitator, Lynn Miller, Norge Elementary School’s Library Media Assistant, and instructors, Reed and Karen Nester of BikeWalk Williamsburg. As a result of the club’s success, two more Bicycle Safety Clubs were added this semester at WJCC Schools. One is at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School and the other at J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School. In order to serve more students, we need more trained instructors. Safe Routes to School will sponsor the $25 registration fee for up to 6 parents or staff volunteers interested in taking the Smart Cycling course offered by BikeWalk Williamsburg on Friday evening March 22 from 6 – 9 p.m. and Saturday March 23 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact Dr. Darlene Wiggins Dockery at or (757) 603-6490.
